story behind the song : you remind me

It's quite some time I type something here..

Love to take some time to share some stories about some of my songs off the album THIS ROAD.

Based on some feedbacks I received, most came to me and said they love the track YOU REMIND ME. Therefore, I love to share the story about this song and what is all about.

Tell me, have you been in situation where when you were hanging out with friends, having chats and laughs then someone randomly tells you, "Man, you remind me of my home town friend who talks/laugh/act like you." Or when you do something, then someone commented the way you do it reminds them of their father, uncle, friend, neighbour, teacher.

That thought basically forms the gist of the song YOU REMIND ME.

I composed this song nearly 3 years ago when I was still studying in university. I was sitting down one day in my room and thinking about all the friends I made over the past 20 years of my life. Some way in another, some of these friends have left an impression on you. Sometimes when you walk on the street, when you see a stranger or make a new friend, or the things that people do, perhaps they could remind you of the friends you have. Or when you are in a situation, you could remember someone because you went through that situation before.

It is in the chorus part I reflect on the fact that all of us are blessed with friends around us no matter where we are or at what stage of life we are at. Perhaps there's purpose God placed them in our lives.

Anyway, I actually enjoyed recording that song and in fact, it was one of the easiest track I and Jonathan Tse(my producer friend) recorded. We arranged it very simple and nice for listeners. When I listened back, I myself enjoyed it. Just proud that I able to record a song that can show my appreciation to all the people I met over the past 20 plus years of my life.

Hope you understand the song a little bit more and would glad to share more stories about the songs I composed.

Cheers.

when TL speaks Malay..

As you can see in previous post, I was in this Klang Valley BM Revival Meeting which was organized by Jasihku Ministry on 22th and 23rd of October.

Personally, it was indeed a privilege and honor to be at the meeting to minister to them.

On my right is Jeffry S.Tjandra who also perform on the night. He is a well-known Indonesian Christian singer and was glad to be able to have some conversation with him.

Anyway, as for both nights, I enjoyed singing and sharing to them in Bahasa Malaysia. It's my first time honestly to share in BM and I think I pulled it off well. haha. The crowd were lovely.

I wanna thank Jasihku Ministry for allowing me to have the opportunity to share and sing some songs off my album to the BM people. Special mention to John Sapalo for initiating my performance on both nights.

Looking forward to more opportunities like these in future..yea..haha..

At the same time, I would like to announce that TL is confirmed dropping by at Kota Kinabalu in for the first two weeks of December. Dates for some places are unconfirmed yet but for now, we just can confirm that Sabah is the next destination for us..and TL will be at Sabah Diocesan English Youth camp from 7th to 11th December to share/sing at the camp. We will keep you updated on this then so stay tuned.

Keep us all in prayer and thanks for the support so far.

Much love.

10 facts of THIS ROAD

It's been 1 months since we released THIS ROAD, the debut album of Tim Lim. Thank you all for those who have purchase the album and supported us so far.

In conjunction with the 1 month anniversary of the launch, we love to share 10 juicy facts about the album..

1) The first song ever recorded for the album was track 9 on the album, Lost in Love/Amazing Grace
2) My first-ever properly composed song is in this album. I m sure some have heard the story about it. It is track 5 - Creating Miracles.
3) The last song that was recorded for this album was track 11 - This Road. Ironic eh? haha.
4) Jonathan Tse sung as backup vocal on two tracks..track 9 and track 10. Spot it..haha.
5) The most easiest song, for me, in the recording process of the album was track 8 - You remind me. We finished recording that song so fast, I think less than 2 hours, and yet sounded beautiful.
6) Most songs were composed over the past 7 years of my life.
7) Yes, as you all know, the album contains 10 songs. But the fact for the past 7 years, I been composing around 90+ songs. To narrow it down to 10 songs is no joke. I have written all kinds of songs .. from circular to worship so it all comes down to make type of album I wanted to make, which helps in narrowing what songs to record for the album
8) The album name, THIS ROAD came to my mind 2 years ago. So when I was asked what name should I give to my debut album, the answer was kinda easy.
9) As you can see on the album, it has 11 tracks but it was supposed to be a 10-songs album. After listening to My Trust, I and Jonathan thought the long intro that was done can be separated into an interlude. Thus, track 3 is actually an interlude towards track 4 - My Trust
10) The whole production process took nearly a year, as I have to travel to Jonathan's studio in Kota Kinabalu for recording.

That's some facts I love to share for now. Stay tuned for more in weeks, months to come :)

Do remember that THIS ROAD is make available now through these channels ..

1) Place your orders online through timlim1206@gmail.com and we will work with you on how you can get your hands on it
2) For KL people, you can visit Faith Christian Centre to purchase the album. Who knows, if I m around, you can get my signature for free! :) If you need directions, visit ilovefcc.com
3) For Ipoh people, you can purchase it through St Peter's Church.

Soon, the album would be available in some Christian bookstore. Stay tuned for more of that information.

We hope also to release some information about upcoming some gigs but stay tuned for that as well. Basically everything is exciting at TL project.

Much love.

THIS ROAD - the story.the inspiration.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

(ROAD NOT TAKEN by ROBERT FROST)

Think of the decisions we all made in life. Milo or Coffee? Work/Study locally or oversea? What to work as..? example: doctors, teachers, accountants, lawyers, actors, etc etc.

This poem actually inspired the title of the album. I know over the years, those who studied literature will debate the meaning of this poem but as for myself, what struck me that life is full of decisions and each one of us take different routes in life. I feel it speaks that in our life, each one of us are given choices, or in this case, roads to take. In the end, the roads that all of us take is different than anyone else.

Thus, the title of the album, THIS ROAD represents a person's journey in life. At each point of our lives, we always reach some crossroads that provoke us to ponder and choose which would be our next route. THIS ROAD represent the life I m living now, the road that I m now travelling, and at the same time, sharing the stories of ups and downs in life, the relationship I have with God and people around me.

Indeed, I m privilege to be sharing my story to you all through this album and I hope you will be blessed by the songs in it.

Now for some promo procedure..hehe..

Pre-sales still on-going!! For more information, you can keep checking here, www.myspace.com/timlimproject or the newly-launched FB fan page.

Countdown to 090909 album launch! You can RVSP your attendance throught Facebook and get more information about the launch there!!

Songs that inspired me/the project..

As I countdown towards my album launch, i love to share with everyone a few songs that inspired me to compose songs, influence my album's music direction, songs made me ponder about my life and my relationship with God and shaped me as I start this journey. All in all, I ms sharing some songs that helped to spark that fire that leads me to embark on this solo project..

There are a lot of songs..but I picked 5 to make it more orderly.

1) Nick Carter's Help Me
This is one of the song when i first heard it, inspired me as a young person growing up facing challenges in life. It also made me realize we humans always given choices in life, making decisions that could change our life, coming at crossroads. Thus, that inspired the name of my album, THIS ROAD.

At the end of the day, you cant help but to look to God and seek His direction. It is written in PSALM 119.105 - Your word is a lamp to my feet and light to my path.

Music-wise, it has influenced me...I m a big BSB fan and then Nick came out with his debut solo album few years ago which is more of pop-rockish. This song was his first single and when i first listen to it when i was young, i can't help but to play this song many times. I enjoyed and love this song a lot...till today if I listen to it again, i still love it very much. Lyrics-wise, it inspired me to compose a few songs like this that ponders about life and decisions we face everyday. We do make good decisions or bad decisions...given choices which are tough to choose. At the end, being imperfect makes us seeking help from above.

2) Jeremy Camp - Walk By Faith
This song largely influence me in terms of musically and spiritually. It also influenced the direction of the album as well. Anyway, I m a big fan of Jeremy Camp for his worshipful songs/lyrics.

I remember this song spoke to me few years ago when i was in the middle of my University days. I was wondering about my life...my future career, my future family, finance..at the same time, I had many questions in my mind like why i m studying in this place..why i m doing this and that etc. At the end of the day, it brings me back to God where the message is straight away.. walk by faith. Trust Him. Submit to Him everything.

I remember there's a bible verse that goes, faith without action is dead and there is also another verse that goes, with faith you can move mountains. Such encouragement made me to have this habit to walk my life with faith. It's not an easy process or an overnight thing to do, but i learn it slowly and gradually.

This song also inspired me to compose a few songs about trusting Him and putting our faith in Him. I remember one day as i walk home from University, God put this thought in my heart and i compose a song that speaks of my trust in putting my hope in God. One of it is entitled HOPE which you can hear through the TL preview.

3) Switchfoot - Meant to Live
This is the song, i think, that push Switchfoot into the limelight. I first heard it and i thought it is one awesome rocking song. Then few months later, i heard it was attached to the soundtrack of Spiderman 2...which made me relate to the song ever more. Spiderman 2 is one of the few movies that touched me a lot. In that movie, Peter Parker has to juggle so many responsibilties..from being a good nephew, a good friend, a good boyfriend, a good student and being a superhero at one go. He struggle through that process because he feels sometimes no one understands him even though he does a lot of things..in short, he cares for others more than himself sometimes. That human side of him speaks to me a lot.

A lot of us tend to juggle many responsibilties and sometimes we feel no one can understand us. We easily get tired and emotionally drained. We run the rat race but actually there is more than what we are living for. Hence, this song indeed inspired me to realize we are meant to live for so much for in this life, not just enjoying the world but there is something more. Things in the world are temporary but let's strive for something that last forever.

Phillipians 3:14 - I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards in Christ Jesus.

4) Reuben Morgan - World Through Your Eyes
This song has inspired me in terms of musically and spiritually as well. To me, the message is direct, to understand situation beyond what we see, to know that God has a reason for everything. Our world is so imperfect but in God's eyes, His marvelous plan works for us..even though sometimes we humans tend to wonder how it's gonna happen. Thus, this inspire me to trust Him.

5) Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
A song that largely inspired me to really step out from my comfort zone and do the best in my life. I remember this song alot because when i was leaving my hometown for studies, the youths put together a tribute video using this song. The video was funny..haha..i still have it by the way. Anyway, seriously, the song indeed touched me to reach out my dreams..be courageous and bold. Sometimes we tend to worry about obstacles and bumps along the way..but life is about learning.

Like I said earlier, there are plenty more other songs but this 5 largely I feel inspired me. Anyway, I do hope this sharing does give you an idea how the music direction and songs will sound.

As i m typing this, ya, we are like 2 months++ away from the album launch. More stuff and info would be out soon. Pretty excited about it. But do keep TL project crew in prayer and do support us.

Much love. =)

NOTE :

Second round was done on Sunday night. We found this awesome place to shoot and honestly, we shot a lot here compare to Saturday morning. Ideas just poured in the late night setting of KL town...did a lot of shots with various angles and lightings..had fun doing this night shots.

Hopely we can put up some shots we took here. The best shots of course, is reserved for the album cover. At least, there are some pictures to give you an idea what we did and get you excited about the album as well.

Credit to Cedric and Garry for their work and time. I appeciate their dedication and work a lot. Had lots of fun in the process as we strived to find the best shots for the album design.

In other development, it's 100% or should i say 110% confirmed that the first album launch will be on 9th September 2009 at Faith Christian Centre, Sunway. More information will be released but for now, circle that date on your calendar :)

Songs that represent a person’s relationship with God and his journey in life. Songs that everyone can listen to, no matter who you are and what you believe in.

Am I signed under Purpose Records?
Actually no. The whole project is largely self-funded unlike Charis that is totally under Purpose Records. Even though Jonathan Tse is my producer, we both consider this like a joint venture project where Purpose Records is helping me in certain areas. Yes, to be clear again, I m in a way , an indie artist. Do support me then and pray for me as well. :)

That's all. Like i said earlier, i welcome any more questions.

how it all started..

This entry basically is like my sharing and testimonial about how this project was birthed..

You can say it has been my dream eversince when I was young to do an album. Since then, I always been praying and seeking God for direction like how I gonna do it and who are the people I should meet. Yes..i been praying for this since when i was young. At first, honestly, I had this wild idea to be in a boy band. Well, that time BSB, NSYNC, Boyzone was super popular…or even MLTR. Haha. But i think it kickstart my passion in music. At the same time, i credited my passion in music to people around me in church life when i was young in Ipoh. My dad actively serves in the worship team so does his friends and my friends. With that, i always encouraged to serve..in whatever areas..and i picked up music instruments along the way.

But all in all, I can say serving God in worship ministry is the one that raised me and brought me where i am now. To add to that, I guess patience and time is a factor as well.

So yes, long time ago in a town called Ipoh, I was actively serving God in the worship team in my hometown church, St Peter's Church. I was passionate to serve God in that area. One thing leads to another, well, I beginning to discover God’s calling for me, that is to serve Him in this area of worship and music. Again, I played with the idea of doing album but that time, it’s not necessary must be a solo album, even if I m able to oversea a church album, also I was more than happy. It is like I vowed before I die, I must at least do an album, don’t care if it is solo or church. Crazy vow I made uh? Hahaha.

I begin composing songs at the age of 16. I just random compose songs about anything..worship, relationships, situation, love, etc etc. The moment of truth came when I was 18 years old, I was selected by my school prefectional board to compose a theme song for the school’s prefectional leadership camp. I composed a song and submitted to the committee. I admit…I prayed hard for ideas! When I presented the song to the committee, they enjoyed it and thus, ended up as being the theme song for the camp. I never forget that feeling to see 70 students singing to the song that I composed. That inspired me to compose more songs.

For your trivia, that song I composed for the camp will be feature in this album. I cant wait for everyone to hear it.

Then one fine day, I met this guy who came over to my hometown church to do worship workshop. A certain guy name Jonathan Tse, who was young that time. Our friendship started off that time and because I was about to leave Ipoh to KL for studies, it is good for us to knowing each other so at least i don't feel so alone when i m in KL. Eventually i was introduced to the current church i m in now, which is Faith Christian Centre, fondly known as FCC.

In FCC, again like my time in Ipoh, I just want to serve God in worship ministry. I didn’t seriously think much about doing album at that moment, just like submitting it to God’s will and see how He lead my life. I was just happily living in the church environment, hanging with friends, studying hard, thinking about my future. Till one fine day, I and Jon discuss about album production. At that time, he just released his first album Purpose and I did told him my wild ambition to do something like him. From there, we exchanged ideas and i learn a lot from him. But that time, I feel time wasn’t right yet. I was still in UTAR, doing my Broadcasting degree course and still being financed by my parents. My focus that time was to finish my degree studies, get myself a decent self-funding flow and continue to serve God in FCC. There were few opportunities for me to join music bands but somehow i feel all these wasn't in the right time yet.

At the same time, I feel I need time to decide what direction the album would sound, if i were to do it. Choices were tossed around in my head, like doing a really circular album or a Christian album or worship album and what genre such as pop, rock…so yes, basically I'm trying to decide what musical direction the album would take.

It’s kind of funny how this things started again. I remember in January 2008, I think because it was before CNY, I was in a lecture then Jon sms me if I m interested to do an album with him. I said yes but after I finished my studies. Again yes, my focus is to finish my studies that time.

Fast forward to after my graduation and now working in FCC as a fulltime worship co-coordinator, I finally have time to start the project. At first it was a challenge for me because the whole project is self-funded by me. I m not signed under Purpose records, just to be clear. It is more like a joint-project by myself with the Purpose records. Yes, I m like a indie artist.

I recorded my first song in August 2008 after attending the Sabah Anglican Youth camp. From that song, the direction for the album became clearer.

The whole process so far has been an adventure for me. There were challenges along the way like doing recording at KK while I m working here, which means sometimes the production has been dragging on a bit. Self-funding the project. Finding the right people. Praying for the right direction for the album. All in all, it’s been a great experience with all the learning and a journey of discovering the right formula to bring up this project.

Alright, that brings us to current development. I will be putting some finishing touches to the last few songs of the album in April. At the same time, there are some people who are working behind the scene for the art direction, marketing and other related stuff.

I hope this album can be a blessing to listeners no matter who they are. Locally or internationally. Young and old. My heart and my prayer is these songs can touched lives and encourage them about God’s love.

Do pray for me as I journey on. At the same time, being much excited about what God is going to do in my life and also other people’s life. Awesome stuff…cant wait!

Much love,
TL
